The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory line database SAO92

A description of the SAO92 database appeared recently in the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (vol. 52, pp. 447-457, 1994). An abbreviated postscript version is available in postscript and PDF formats.

We have compiled the database from the HITRAN and JPLSMM line databases, with some revisions based on measurements here at SAO. The database is available as a single large binary file, or a number of ASCII files. Although both file types are available in 80 and 100 character formats, only the 100 character format is currently maintained. All updates since April 1, 1994 have been made to the 100 character format only. Due to their large size, the ASCII files are broken up into 100 cm-1 chunks. The name is sao92x.dat for the file covering 100(x-1) cm-1 to 100x cm-1. ASCII files also are broken up into individual molecules for convenience.

More information on the latest release, including a description of the 100 character format, is also available.
