UVCS MISSION LOG ---------------- Date: 04 February 2002 ----- Last revision: 06 February 2002 (Wu) -------------- File Name: 2002.02.04.a.log ----------- Compiled by: Y.-K. Ko, R. Wu ------------ UVCS Activity: Load mask OVI_RED_FF in Slot 5 -------------- Active Region Streamer Study for 04 - 05 February 2002 (See Below) SOHO Activity: (See Below) -------------- From email from SOC at Tue, 5 Feb 2002 07:04:47 Local Time: ----------------------------------------------------------- SOHO has experienced a thermal reconfiguration, warm startup and an ESR, in an as yet unknown order. All instruments were powered off at the LCL level. Cause for the above is not known at this time. We are only getting low rate telemetry at this time. The FOT is manually turning on heaters on the redundant side for all instruments. The duty cycles may need to be adjusted down later. From email from SOC at Tue, 5 Feb 2002 07:53:13 Local Time: ----------------------------------------------------------- The UVCS redundant heaters have been turned on. The circuit numbers are: 84 [Unknown Duty Cycle -- either 60% or 70% --"nominal value" is not known at time message was sent -- NB: 60% is nominal value: reported by SOC at ~20:25 UT] 85 [100% Duty Cycle] From email from SOC at Tue, 5 Feb 2002 08:11:06 Local Time: ----------------------------------------------------------- We know a little more information now. Between the warm startup and the ESR, somehow the instruments were turned off. Thus, no instrument received the ESR flag - we know this because errors were sent back after the ESR flag saying that none of the instruments responded. We are currently in ESR mode and are trying to get to CRP mode to minimize the thruster firing, and to get medium rate telemetry to dump the frozen telemetry packets. But, thrusters are being fired now while the instruments are not safed. From email from SOC at Tue, 5 Feb 2002 16:47:44 +0000 (GMT): ------------------------------------------------------------ Schedule of Events from early this morning - 2/5/02 --------------------------------------------------- (As recorded by SOCs during staff meeting at 9am) 0239 UT lost telemetry Got telemetry back and the FOT found the s/c in low rate Due to being on D46, it took 2 hours to get the low rate data Pulled D43 out of maintenance so no emergency was declared then Once FOT saw low rate telemetry, they found that we were in ESR and a warm startup had happened FOT found that the AMPE, SSR, substitution heaters, and experiments were all off FOT found ESR active and the RMS active and the 87 circuit was in violation, though thermal reconfiguration didn't trigger because the function was disabled FOT re-enabled thermal reconfiguration monitoring and thermal reconfiguration happened 0435 declared emergency to keep a good station 0601 began recovery from ESR The plan was to go to CRP first then do warm startup recovery FOT enabled redundant substitution heaters for all instruments the duty cycle settings were correctly stored in RAM FOT trimmed roll rate to 0 FOT loaded gyroless patches to ACU FOT switched back to AOCS nominal side Wheels 1,2,3 were spun up 1204 transitioned to CRP - we were in ESR for ~9 hours LVB had been left open so it was closed CAT Bed Heater A was left off since no further thruster firing until instruments are on and safe An attempt was made to dump ACU frozen packets, but the packets were never frozen since the ESR monitoring that normally freezes packets had been disabled by the warm startup The warm startup recovery has been started COBS context memory was dumped to process frozen packets As of now, we are in nominal pitch and yaw, but the roll attitude is -170.89 degrees Today the plan is to roll back to nominal (should not take long) then do the warm startup recovery, which includes COMS backup, so we should get to medium rate by about 2pm and then the FOT will continue with the warm startup recovery. We have 34 meter coverage throught the end of today SSR is not on and isn't part of recovery yet - all data that was on the SSR since the last dump on Friday has been lost We expect continuous contact all night We are still deciding if there will be a MM/SK - if so, several instruments will want to be turned on so they can safe. The MM would only be a few grams of fuel. Instrument turn-on would be Wednesday, with the maneuvers on Thursday if all goes well today. EOF Staff: Y.-K. Only Low Rate / Spacecraft Telemetry is available. Only after power on will telemetry received in Medium Rate become meaningful. Approximately 17:10 UT, Warm Startup (as part of recovery from Warm Startup) causes all Spacecraft Substitution Heaters to be set to 0% duty cycle. Substitution Heater duty cycles then manually re-applied to all instrument teams except CDS. Thermal Reconfiguration is disabled (the flag will be sent if limits are reached, but no action will be taken by the spacecraft). Thermal Reconfig can still be triggered "manually" if FOT so desires by enabling Thermal Reconfig functionality while flag is in place.
