UVCS MISSION LOG ---------------- Date: 03 December 2004 ----- Last revision: 13 December 2004 (Wu) -------------- File Name: 2004.12.08.a.log ---------- Compiled by: R. Wu, M. Uzzo ------------ UVCS Activity: Ulysses-SOHO Quadrature for 08 December 2004 -------------- Begin and Abort OVI Detector Mask Load Load and Start OVI Synoptic for 08 - 09 December 2004 UVCS in Safe Mode due to SOHO ESR (UVCS received ESR Warning Flag at approximately 21:59 UT) SOHO Activity: Received in email from SOC Thursday, 09 December -------------- 2004 at 02:58 UT: At 21:58 UTC during a normal pass we lost telemetry. Telemetry was recovered at 22:12 in low rate showing we are in ESR. The indicated trigger cause is the CSPAAD (Coarse Sun Pointing Attitude Anomaly Detector). This anomaly detector triggers at 25 degrees off-pointing. Since all pointing was nominal up to the point where we lost telemetry this is obviously a false trigger. The cause is currently unknown. Right now we are proceeding with the recovery following the contingency script. Received in email from SOC Thursday, 09 December 2004 at 05:22 UT: As part of a nominal recovery from ESR mode, SOHO entered CRP mode at 04:44 UT on Thursday 9 December 2004. The plan is to restore the nominal FPSS offsets, but otherwise leave the spacecraft in whatever roll position it is in overnight. Since we have only 26m stations scheduled, and are still using the low gain antenna, we will stay in low rate telemetry until some time tomorrow morning (local time), when the recovery will proceed. More precise details are not available as of this writing. Received in email from SOC Thursday, 09 December 2004 at 16:31 UT: We are doing the roll back to nominal roll attitude at this time. A momentum management will also be performed, and other normal recovery activities will then continue. Received in email from SOC Thursday, 09 December 2004 at 20:58 UT: The last burn of the momentum management was finished at 20:35 UT. There will be no station keeping until the originally scheduled maneuver day of December 21. After completing post-burn activities, the next step will be communications backup recovery, leading to medium/high rate telemetry. 20 minutes of NRT will then be made available for some instruments before proceeding with recovery to Normal Mode.
