The decision was made to place UVCS into a soft safe configuration although proton flux had not reached a level where UVCS would normally safe. This was due to a gap in DSN coverage. Proton flux was still increasing at the time the decision was made to safe. The currently running observation was aborted, OVI detector High Voltage was ramped down and turned off, Mirror / Occulter Mechanism was set to 1.5 Ro / 1.3 Ro, instrument was rolled to 35156 Engineering Units, and the OVI slit was closed from 150 um to 100 um.
