UVCS WG ON
Empirical Models of CME's, transients, active regions, flares, quiet
corona
Chairperson:
Ester Antonucci
Group Coordinator:
Daniele Spadaro
Main scientific purposes:
- characterize coronal phenomena such as coronal mass ejections and
transients by determining the dynamics of the plasma in terms of
outflow velocity, l.o.s. velocity, rms value of the velocity
distribution, the geometry as derived with the different line
emissions, possibly the plasma temperature, ionization conditions
and element abundance;
- characterize in the same manner the mid-latitude coronal regions
outside streamers;
- investigate the effects on the extended corona of solar activity,
namely of active regions and flares.
The first goal of the working group will be to discuss how to optimize
the observations to get a homogeneous and as complete as possible
set of data in order to achieve the best empirical definition of
phenomena and regions under investigation.
We presume that the observational approach of the working group and
the emphasis on the different topics of interest will change
progressively through the solar cycle (long life to UVCS!).
