Empirical Models of Coronal Holes, Plumes, and Plasmoids
Chairperson:
Giancarlo Noci
Group Coordinator:
TBD
Main scientific purposes:
- to study the morphology of coronal holes, in order to establish which
are their constituents (e.g. plumes and inter-plume regions).
- to determine the physical parameters (ion and electron temperatures,
densities, abundances, outflow velocities; also waves and `turbolence'),
in plumes and inter-plume regions, to set the base for theoretical models
of these features and of fast speed streams of solar wind.
- to study the hole boundaries, in order to try to detect the sharp
transition in the physical properties at this boundary, as suggested
by solar wind interplanetary observations.
- to establish, with the above studies, which is the source of the slow
solar wind.
