UVCS WG ON
Empirical Models of Coronal Holes, Plumes, and Plasmoids

Chairperson:

Giancarlo Noci

Group Coordinator:

TBD

Main scientific purposes:

  1. to study the morphology of coronal holes, in order to establish which are their constituents (e.g. plumes and inter-plume regions).
  2. to determine the physical parameters (ion and electron temperatures, densities, abundances, outflow velocities; also waves and `turbolence'), in plumes and inter-plume regions, to set the base for theoretical models of these features and of fast speed streams of solar wind.
  3. to study the hole boundaries, in order to try to detect the sharp transition in the physical properties at this boundary, as suggested by solar wind interplanetary observations.
  4. to establish, with the above studies, which is the source of the slow solar wind.
