I am currently completing my Ph.D. at the University of Lisbon, advised by Professor Filipe Duarte Santos, and conducting my thesis research as a Smithsonian predoctoral fellow at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics under the supervision of Dr. Charles Lada.

I received my M.Sc.'s degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics (October 2003) from the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, where I also obtained my graduate degree in physics. My M.Sc. research was on the disk fraction of the young partially embedded stellar cluster NGC 2316, and it was carried out under the supervision of Professor Filipe Duarte Santos, Dr. José Carlos Correia, and Dr. João Alves.

My research is on star formation in young embedded clusters, specifically, I am interested (i) in investigating fragmentation of filamentary clouds and prestellar cores, (ii) in the observational study of protostellar evolution, and (iii) in the characterization of protoplanetary disks using near-, mid-infrared, and high resolution submillimeter data. These data are mostly obtained from the Spitzer Space Telescope and the Submillimeter Array (SMA).
